Sunderland AFC is looking to recruit a Senior Physiotherapist to deliver high quality sports medicine care in both the acute and rehabilitation settings, providing assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of senior players.
Reporting to the Head Physiotherapist you will work in a multi-disciplinary team, to assess and manage injuries and illnesses to all the club’s senior players, including making relevant referrals to internal and external professionals. Familiarity with Musculo-skeletal screening and movement analysis, and experience of working as a physiotherapist within the professional development phase and/or senior professional football is essential.
Candidates must be aware of the PGAAC Audit process and the Performance Management Application, be highly organised, with experience of working under pressure, and be able to communicate with a range of staff
Responsibilities for the role include:
-Management of injuries for senior squad.
-Manual soft tissue therapy for players in the senior squad.
-Daily work with Academy players when required.
-Provide match day cover to 1st Team games and additional matches as required.
-Daily completion of all players’ medical records using club nominated electronic system.
-Maintain a comprehensive database of work conducted with athletes to include current medical status, medical notes, rehabilitation and prehabilitation programmes, medical/orthopaedic/movement screen results, individual physical targets and session content and attendance.
-Collate, analyse and feedback relevant medical information to the appropriate Club staff for all Academy players. This is to include updates on injured players, rehabilitation programmes, return to train/play dates and injury audits within medical confidentiality guidelines.
-Accompanying players to medical appointments as and when required
-To work in a multidisciplinary team as a team player alongside other disciplines (medical, massage therapy, sports science, strength and conditioning, podiatry, nutritionists, and sports psychology).
-Liaison with the player recruitment staff concerning appropriate medical information and consents for all -Academy trialists.
-Attend and actively participate in medical meetings
Candidates must be a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Previous experience working within a football medical programme and/or in another sporting domain in a senior medical role and holding (or working towards) a MSc in Physiotherapy is desirable. You will be expected to undertake any specific training or Continued Professional Development to maintain your qualifications and/or as organised by the Club.
This position is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring (DBS) check and the successful candidate must be in possession of up-to-date FA Safeguarding certificate, ATMMiF certificate and full UK driving licence.

About The Role
Leicester City Football Club is currently searching for a First Team Management Physiotherapist to work alongside the senior doctor and physiotherapists within the medical department. The First Team Management Physiotherapist will work closely with the Head of Performance plus the strength and conditioning and fitness staff to ensure optimum care and management of the football players concerning their physical development and injury treatment whilst striving for future injury prevention.
Who We’re Looking For the ideal candidate will have demonstratable capability in the following:

The ideal candidate will have the following experience and qualifications :
  • Qualified and State Registered Physiotherapist
  • Registration with The Health Care Professions Council
  • Up to date qualification with a course covering basic life support and rescue from the field of play (for example ATMMiF held by The FA, EFARU held by The RFU).
  • Excellent knowledge and capability in physiotherapy, able to supervise and mentor others and liaise with senior staff.
  • A thorough understanding and experience of the challenges of physiotherapy in an elite sport environment.
  • A strong musculoskeletal background with specific interest in structural and functional pathology of the spine and pelvis.
  • An in depth understanding of human kinetics and clinical biomechanics.
Desirable :
  • Experience of working in Premier League Football at a senior level.

  • Strong sense of education and personal development through diverse working practice.

To accompany players to medical consultations, possibly at short notice, ensuring the player receives optimal care and advice at all times

The Club is searching for a Lead Academy Physiotherapist to join its Medical Team. The successful applicant will join a leading and innovative medical team which strives to achieve optimal results in the areas of performance, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, while providing elite care for players. This post will lead on areas of physiotherapy, both clinical and managerial, within the multidisciplinary team in our Academy. The role will also be primarily responsible for physiotherapy services to the U18 squad. The role will be involved in implementation of injury prevention strategies and medical screening for the Academy players and contribute to the on-going development of this process in conjunction with the other members of the medical department. The role will be responsible for ensuring optimal cover for all Academy age groups for both training sessions and matches both home and away. The position is identified as a Designated Person for safeguarding and is responsible for executing good practice around children (under 18s) and forwarding queries/issues or disclosures to the Safeguarding Officer.  Lead the Academy physiotherapy team in provision of physiotherapy care to our Academy players
Attend U18 Matches both home and away as required, ensuring pitch side cover is provided with all necessary equipment
Work closely with the coaching and sport science staff as part of an integrated performance team
Develop and maintain a programme of injury prevention
Work collaboratively with the medical and sport science department across the club to ensure a consistent philosophy and approach to rehabilitation
Ensure player’s parents are involved in and happy with ongoing issues and treatments as appropriate
Report any safeguarding concerns as appropriate and act on any concerns brought to your attention

  • A BSc or MSc degree level qualification in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC Registered
  • Experience of working within a high-performance team and a clear understanding of successful player development of young athletes
  • An extensive and up to date CPD portfolio.
Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience of working full time with elite level athletes
  • Successful experience of working full time in a high-performance team environment
  • Be a good role model for staff and players in the elite sport environment in terms of knowledge, behaviour and development
  • Experience in leading and managing a physiotherapy team.
  • Maintain high professional standards at all time and conform to expected behaviours in terms of clinical practice and confidentiality
  • Be willing and able to travel away from home including to international tours and tournaments when required

  • Experience in leading a Football Academy
  • First Team experience in elite professional football
